1° PATWAY: in preparing the 10th Conference SMES

'OUTREACH and BRIDGEBUILDING'
in the street – home – institution

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

SMES-EUROPA has the pleasure of inviting you, or your delegate, to MILAN from the 21st to the 23rd of September to the 1st Pathway, preparatory to the 10th SMES Conference (Rome 18-21 November 2007).

GENERAL AIMS - prepare the general themes of the conference: 15 years on, which direction, which programme, what kind of investment for Dignity & Health - Rights & Access - Inclusion & Participation in our society?
Regarding social exclusion and mental illness, what kind of national action plans can further participatory inclusion, solid cohesion and the promotion of mental health.
SPECIFIC AIMS - in-depth study of the 1st theme: Outreach - Intermediation in the street – home - institution, which will be, along with two others ('work and participation, immigration and identity'), one of the axes for reflection, exchange and proposal of the Conference.
- 'Outreach'                one of key words that will oriented this first pathway :
      looking for ?     people who lives in situation of serious health & social precariousness,
                                       especially mentally ill, person abandoned in chronically situation of exclusion
                                       and discrimination
      where ?           everywhere they could live in situation of abandon : in street - home -
                                       institution
      why ?               each one with own motivation : the political body, the administrator, the
                                       workers, the volunteers and media..., for promoting efficient - integrate -
                                       program against exclusion and for inclusion
- 'Bridgebuilding'   these is the second keyword: today the 'intercultural mediators' are more and
                                      important function in our society. But what about 'society mediator' facilitators
                                      of social cohesion, participation in citizenship ?
EXPECTED RESULTS :

Specify and delineate innovative ideas and interesting content of the conference in good frame.

In-depth study of the 1st theme, indication of lines of thought, of priorities to highlight, an exchange methodology and so on….

Interesting documents (articles, books, experiences, researches, other) about this topic.

Prepare an invitation to participate (call for abstracts) and set up a committee for their evaluation

Propose speakers for the introductory part (debate – round table) of Conference :
"dialogue between ‘humanists’ on the wide themes of : society..., participation..., other ..."

Suggest a title (if only provisional) for the conference : "la santé passe par la dignité ?...

Propose strategies for the diffusion of information on the conference and especially of its preparation .

Discussion & decision about "anthology" of interventions of the 9th previous Conferences

Definition of the next two pathways (dates – places - themes)

Other…

4. PROGRAMME : the programme will be divided into two parts:

a. Workshop for ideas and proposals: 22 September 2pm - 6pm, with the participation of
- members of the steering committee,
- local professional experts (from Milan and Rome)
- invited Members of SMES.

b. Mini programme of exchange visits : 21^st afternoon – 22^nd afternoon – 23rd morning
